Department of Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in nursing is a community-based, holistic program focused on a health and wellness model that educates future nurses in the skills of communication, coordination and cooperation with other health care
professionals. After four years of study, students are qualified to sit for the registered nurse licensure examination following their successful completion of the program as well as holistic nurse certification examination.

1 Hispanic Focus

The Hispanic Focus is a unique elective course of study within the four-year bachelor degree program in nursing. This guided focus is a selection of interdisciplinary courses and selected nursing assignments intended to enhance the student’s understanding of, and nursing practice with, Hispanic peoples.

2 Student Nurse Internship

The internship is designed to provide students with additional socialization into the nursing profession and clinical nursing practice in one of the following areas: medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric care, emergency care, critical care, obstetrics, and perioperative care.

3 Mental Health Nursing Practicum

Practicum experience, where students work with more than 30 agencies in Greater Cincinnati, spending 6 -12 hours a week in mental health care settings to gain hands-on experience.

4 Psycho/Social/Legal Forensics

Xavier’s new, state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory
supplements the nursing student’s clinical experiences by providing
a futuristic simulated learning environment. Using a human patient simulator, students have the opportunity to participate in Simulated Study challenging, real-life scenarios.
