Program Details

Xavier University’s College of Nursing offers a highly sought after Direct Admission undergraduate BSN program in nursing that is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC). This program prepares students as professional nurses capable of meeting the healthcare needs of diverse populations, and with the ability to adapt to a highly technical and ever-evolving healthcare environment. Our approach to nursing is holistic, ethical, and guided by the very values that mark both the profession of nursing and Jesuit institutions. Our graduates leave Xavier qualified to sit for both the registered nurse licensure exam (NCLEX) and the AHNCC certification exam. Xavier’s Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Nursing Courses

Xavier is known for providing an education that's both challenging and personal. Here are some courses that are part of the nursing major at Xavier:

Ways of Knowing (NURS 130) - Introduces the student to nursing as a profession.

Pathophysiology (NURS 364) - Covers general concepts of disease processes in order to provide rationale for diagnosis and health-illness transitions.

Care of the Complex Client (NURS 472) - This course prepares the student to integrate knowledge from all previous courses in emphasizing the interrelatedness of the mind, body, and spirit in order to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care of the complex client.

Nursing Clubs

Student Nurse Organization

The goal of the Student Nurse Organization is to enhance the development of student nurses as professionals. The club plans activities and events that develop nursing students' understanding of the role of the nurse in today's health-care system, encourage participation in community service projects, facilitate interaction with other Xavier Clubs, and provide a supportive social network for students in the nursing program.

Nursing Clinical Sim Labs

Xavier's state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratories in the new Health United Building supplement students' clinical experiences by providing futuristic learning environments. Using human patient simulators, students have the opportunity to participate in simulated challenging, real-life scenarios.

Students are in practicum placements from 6-12 hours per week in a variety of hospitals and other health-care agencies. Xavier maintains agreements with more than 30 institutions and agencies in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Nursing Major at Xavier University

The undergraduate Nursing program at Xavier University is a community-based, holistic program focused on a health and wellness model that educates future nurses in the skills of communication, coordination and cooperation with other health-care professionals. Students choose a traditional, four-year track for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) for those with a degree in other disciplines. Graduates are qualified to sit for the registered nurse licensure examination and for the holistic nurse certification examination.
