Ways to Access Electronic Books

The Collections

Access Medicine (updated daily; all full-text; XLinks; Citation help) provides students, clinicians, and researchers with instant answers to clinical questions from the most trusted textbooks: Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, CURRENT Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine, Schwartz's Principles of Surgery, Fitzpatrick's Color Atlas, Williams' Obstetrics, Hurst's The Heart, Goodman & Gillman's Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, Adams & Victor's Principles of Neurology, Williams' Hematology, and Principles of Critical Care. It provides information necessary for completing evaluations, diagnoses, case management decisions, conducting research, and medical education. It features A to Z access to over 800 disorders and excellent drug information. Users can search for images, videos and audio by keyword. It includes LANGE Basic and Clinical Science Series for on-going study, review and reference, as well as the USMLEasy tool for self-assessment and board review practice. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by McGraw-Hill.

ACLS Humanities eBook (all full-text; title list), formerly the History eBook Project, is an online, fully searchable digital collection of 1,500 high-quality books covering all aspects of world history and many other humanities disciplines. Books in this database have been recommended and reviewed by scholars. They are of major importance, remain vital to scholarship and are frequently cited in the literature. Books may include illustrations, graphs, charts, and maps as well as video, sound and music. Restrictions may apply to printing and downloading as specified in Section 107 of the U. S. Copyright Law. It is produced by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) in collaboration with ten learned societies, about 80 contributing publishers, and librarians at the University of Michigan’s Scholarly Publishing Office. The user interface is provided by ACLS. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog.

Credo Reference (all full-text; list of titles; XLinks), formerly Xreferplus, provides hundreds of electronic reference books covering a broad range of subjects, including art, bilinguals, biography, business, dictionaries, encyclopedias, food, geography, history, language, law, literature, medicine, music, philosophy, psychology, quotations, religion, science, social sciences, and technology. It features over 65,000 images (art, diagrams, maps and photos) and over 93,000 audio pronunciation files accessible in the advanced search. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Xrefer. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog.

ebrary (all full-text; XLinks) contains about 32,300 electronic books in business, marketing, economics, computers, information technology, health, biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, engineering, technology, life sciences, physical sciences, education, history, humanities, law, international relations, public policy, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. It includes books in the Vault Career Library. Users can search for words in the subject, title or full-text of books in this collection. Content can be easliy copied and pasted into a word processing document. Books in this collection are protected by copyright laws and there are limitations on the number of pages that can be printed and copied. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by ebrary. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. The ebrary Reader is required to view, copy and print pages in a book. Click the ebrary Reader icon or link to download the reader. The reader will install and display your ebook. Monthly system maintenance is performed the first Tuesday of each month from 8-10pm (Pacific Time) during which ebrarymay be unavailable.

Gale Virtual Reference Library (all full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides access to more than 1,500 electronic reference books and their individual book chapters covering the arts, biography, business, education, health, history, law, literature, multicultural studies, the nation and the world, science, and social science. There is unlimited, simultaneous usage and no special readers or equipment are required to use this resource. Users can search for keywords in the chapter title or throughout the full-text of a chapter. Book chapters can be downloaded, emailed or printed, as well as translated into eight languages. The Find It icon links to the book in print format in OhioLINK. These electronic books will also be accessible in OhioLINK's Electronic Book Center. It is produced by Gale and the user interface is provided by InfoTrac.

netLibrary eBooks (all full-text: more info; XLinks) provides access to about 15,000 electronic books on many different topics. The full-text of these eBooks may be browsed for 15 minutes or checked-out and read online for 2 hours. It includes books in the Vault Career Library. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. In most cases only one person can access a netLibrary eBook at a time. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by netLibrary. Create an account (more info) at an on-campus computer workstation to add books to a list of favorites.

netLibrary eAudiobooks (more info; XLinks) provides access to a core collection of more than 1,200 of the latest electronic audio best-sellers, book club favorites, and award-winning authors, as well as the Pimsleur language collection of easy-to-understand language lessons for beginners, intermediate level speakers and ESL students covering 39 languages. Users can also find these eAudiobooks in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. More than one person can access a netLibrary eAudiobook at a time. Users have to create an account (more info) while at an on-campus computer workstation in order to download (more info) eAudiobooks to a personal computer workstation at home. An account is also required to create a list of favorites. A maximum of 10 eAudiobooks can be downloaded on your netLibrary account. eAudiobooks expire in 21 days; however, they can be renewed for an additional 21 days. To renew eAudiobooks access your netLibrary account. Listening to eAudiobooks on your personal computer workstation requires Microsoft Windows Media Player version 9 or above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 or above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 or above. Once downloaded, eAudiobooks can be transferred (more info) and listened to on a personal portable listening device (supported portable listening devices). To access, click Audiobooks Center on the netLibrary homepage. NOTE: netLibrary eAudiobooks are not compatible with the Macintosh operating system or iPod players.

OhioLINK Electronic Book Center (all full-text) contains thousands of scholarly and reference e-books covering the humanities, sciences and social sciences. Users can search the collection by keyword or phrase or browse the collection by author, title or subject area. This collection includes ABC-CLIO Electronic Reference Books, ACLS Humanities E-Book, the American & English Literature Collections, Gale Virtual Reference Library, netLibrary, Oxford Reference Online, and Safari Tech Books Online. The individual collections that have links can be searched separately. The collections come from multiple publishers (ABC-CLIO, Oxford University Press, Springer, etc.) and the user interface for the combined collections is provided by OhioLINK. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog.

Oxford Reference Online (all full-text; XLinks) is a cross-searchable database of about 100 encyclopedias, dictionaries, and reference works. It covers general reference as well as specific subject categories that are listed as separate databases: art and architecture, biological sciences, classics, computing, earth and environmental sciences, economics and business, English dictionaries and thesauri, English language and reference, food and nutrition, history, law, literature, maps and illustrations, medicine, military history, modern languages, mythology and folklore, names and places, performing arts, physical sciences and mathematics, politics and social sciences, quotations, religion and philosophy, science,and timelines. All subject categories can be searched separately. It is published by and the user interface is provided by Oxford University Press. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. This subscription is limited to 5 simultaneous users.

Oxford Scholarship Online (all full-text; XLinks) is a cross-searchable collection of about 1,150 electronic books covering economics; finance, philosophy, political science and religion. Subject areas can also be searched individually. The cross reference feature allows users to highlight a word or phrase in a book and retrieve other books containing that word or phrase. About 200 new books are added each year. It is published by and the user interface is provided by Oxford University Press. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog.

Safari Tech Books Online (updated monthly; all full-text; XLinks) includes 1,556 technology electronic books covering topics such as artificial intelligence, certification, databases, desktop applications, e-commerce, graphics, IT management, markup languages, multimedia, networking, operating systems, programming, security, and software engineering. It is produced by Safari and the user interface is provided by ProQuest. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog.
