In addition to the library collections, the McDonald Building provides study, lounge, conference, and instruction space. It houses photocopiers, multimedia equipment and computer workstations. For current members of the Xavier Community the library provides on-site and off-campus access to the XPLORE Library Catalog, research databases, electronic journals, electronic books, electronic reserves and the World Wide Web. The library is part of the Division of Information Resources and consists of two units:

The library is located in the McDonald Buildiing at the X on the Academic Mall. The second and third floors contain the main, reference, audiovisual, music, browsing, children's literature, K-12 textbooks, microform and special collections as well as periodicals and archives. The library annex holds materials that are used less often.
