Levels of Instruction
Four levels of intensive English
instruction are offered: High Beginning, Intermediate, High Intermediate and
Advanced. It is assumed that students
will have had some English
instruction prior to enrollment. Students are tested when they arrive
and placed accordingly. Full-time students are in daytime classes,
Monday through Friday, for a total of 20 to 26 hours per week.
Student Services
Students in the ESL program have full
access to Xavier University facilities, including computer labs, dining
facilities, the Sports Center, and University libraries. The Office
of International Student Services (OISS) provides support to all international
students in many ways. The OISS conducts an excellent orientation
to the campus and to living in the US, and gives assistance in the areas
of cultural adjustment, housing and immigration matters. Special
programs and activities are sponsored by the OISS throughout the academic
year. Housing note: Housing on campus in University residence halls
is very limited, and requires early application.
