Community Counseling Overview
The Master of Arts degree program in community counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The degree program is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a professional clinical counselor. Students interested in working toward state licensure should contact the department chair and visit the following websites:
- State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board
- Commonwealth of Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors
Students who successfully complete this degree may also apply for licensure as a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor upon meeting additional criteria set by the Ohio Credentialing Board. Students interested in the Chemical Dependency Counselor license should contact the department chair for details and visit http://ocdp.ohio.gov/board.stm.
In its Master of Arts degree program, Xavier also offers a concentration in school counseling, a professional degree designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a school counselor.
